Computers
Computers
All libraries in Wirral are now equipped with computer suites which include printers, scanners and access to the internet. A wide range of software, such as Microsoft Office and Publisher is also available.
Computers are available for use by all users of the library service and vary in number from five units in smaller libraries to suites of 10 or more in some larger libraries.
Access
Access to computers is provided during library opening times, subject to availability. Due to occasional high levels of demand, users are advised to telephone or call at their local branch to book a time. Periods of use start at a minimum of half an hour, longer periods can be booked depending on availability.
Courses/Training
A wide range of training courses are held at a number of libraries. Please contact your local library for further information. (Users should be aware that library staff are only able to provide elementary guidance and advice on the internet and software use. Those who wish to increase their ICT skills are advised to take advantage of the wide range of courses available).
Internet Access Policy
The internet service enables users to browse the World Wide Web or use one of the many web-based e-mail facilities. For advice and guidance on using the internet please see our Code of Practice. Before children are allowed to use the internet, permission will be needed from a parent or guardian. Filtering software will be in operation on those computers being used by children. There is no charge for users wishing to use computers or browse the internet for the first half-hour (with a charge of 65p per half hour thereafter).
The PSL Group (Pentra)
Wirral Library Service has developed a unique partnership with THE PSL GROUP, the local Intermediate Labour Market Company, to ensure quality ICT support is available to all users of our Open Acccess facilities.
Trained staff are on hand to provide ’one-to-one’ support and to help users build up their competence and confidence in ICT. All staff are trained to a minimum of NVQ Level 2 and receive continual training to enhance skills and keep up with ICT developments.
This partnership has reciprocal benefits as staff who are on short term contracts are given experience and qualifications to help them secure employment with many local employers.
